30th & 31st March 2015

Building and Promoting Excellence in Practice

Welcome to the 5th International Nursing and Midwifery Conference hosted by the School of Nursing and Midwifery, National University of Ireland, Galway in partnership the Nursing and Midwifery Planning Development Unit of the Health Service Executive (HSE) West and Mid West.

This conference provides an opportunity for researchers, practitioners and policy makers to get together to learn, debate and share methods of building and promoting excellence in practice. The over-arching theme of the conference 'Building and Promoting Excellence in Practice' highlights the importance of strengthening nursing and midwifery practice at international, national, local and community levels. Our fourth conference held in 2013 was attended by more than 200 national and international delegates. It is our hope that this year's conference will continue to build on that success by promoting national and international scholarship through creating opportunities for participants to network, form new relationships and explore opportunities to work collaboratively. The scientific programme will be made up of presentations, submitted oral and poster presentations and there will be five different workshops that delegates can choose from.

Keynote speeches address evidence (Neal Maskrey) and compassionate care (Belinda Dewar) and as part of these themes we are focusing on promoting practitioner well being. We therefore have integrated an arts and well being focus into the conference. Music is woven into the programme and delegates will also have the opportunity to attend a short critically aclaimed play, preformed by Caroline Lynch, focused on healing. In addition delegates can choose to attend mindfullness or relaxation sessions, on offer over lunch and coffee, and there will be a well being area for delegates to relax in.

We hope your will enjoy this unique conference in the beautiful city of Galway.
